The South Congregational Church Nursery School (SCCNS) is a co-operative pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds.
Nursery School Director: Donna Sahlberg
our phone number: 860-569-8053
our e-mail address: email@example.com
The classrooms are located in the educational wing of South Congregational Church at 1301 Forbes Street in East
Please note, however, that it is NOT necessary to be a member of South Congregational Church or even be a member of the Christian religion. ALL children are welcome; and religious training is not part of our curricula. While it uses the facilities of South Congregational Church, SCCNS is not affiliated with the church.
Our nursery school was founded in 1958 and has been in continuous operation since then. We are founded in the belief that a nursery school's primary purpose is to help each child develop a positive self image, feel confident in his or her abilities, respect the feelings and belongings of others, and to feel loved and comfortable in possibly his or her first experience away from home.
Our program is designed to provide a happy, loving and creative environment away from the nuclear family and
to enrich the lives of the children involved by promoting curiosity and encouraging initiative and discovery.
We are a co-op nursery school where parents have many opportunities to get involved in their childs preschool
experience, which we hope is enjoyable for you all.
Class size is limited to 20 children in each of 2 classes with three adults present at all times. (Two teachers and a parent-helper.)
Parental interest and cooperation is essential to achieve efficiency and help maintain the infrastructure.
Each family is expected to participate. A responsible relative, or a person the child is familiar with, is
required to assist in the classroom 6 days per year.
Some of the ways in which parents are expected to participate in the co-op are:
- Baking for holiday parties
- Providing beverages and paper goods
- Equipment repair
- Sharing your talents (piano playing)
- Washing smocks, play dishes or dress-up clothes
This type of system benefits the children and the school. It helps to keep the parents actively involved and aware of the many activities in which their children are involved.
State law requires that a nursery school child has a current physical health form completed by their doctor
before they are permitted in school. Physicals are valid for one year and will need to be updated annually.
All children who attend South Congregational Church Nursery School (SCCNS) must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, mumps, measles, rubella, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hib, influenza and varicella. All children must also have a TB screening. Medical and Religious Exemptions will be accepted. Religious Exemptions must be notarized.
The nursery school is staffed by a director, qualified teachers and a treasurer. This dedicated staff meets
regularly to discuss the curriculum and how they can best relate to the children involved in the program.
Staff members belong to the National and Hartford Associations for the Education of Young Children. The nursery school teachers attend appropriate workshops and lectures on early childhood education.
All staff members are required to complete a standard, state approved, First Aid Course and a CPR course every two years. Three staff members are certified to administer medication.
The staff is always available to confer with parents about their childrens adjustment to the nursery school environment.
In addition to the paid staff, the school is run by a Nursery School Committee of unpaid church members. Their names and numbers are available from the director should a parent have a question for the governing board.
Three-day session for three year olds: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - 9:00-12:00 p.m.
