Madeline Harris

Accounts Manager

Madeline grew up in Metuchen, NJ and after high school, attended Bucknell University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. After obtaining her degree, it led to a position working in New York City as a Structural Design Engineer. After 3 years of structural design work, she changed course and became a Computer Programmer updating on-site structural design programs. After a few years, she was promoted to the position of Director of the Computer Department (when computers were the size of an entire room) where she oversaw the development of both engineering design and accounting programs. The Director position offered her the ability to hone her accounting knowledge.

 

During that time, Madeline met her husband, Stuart. In 1987, they moved back to East Hartford, Stuart’s hometown. Madeline and Stuart have two children, Brian and Julia; and 3 grandchildren, Johnny and Becca (Brian) and Lincoln (Julia) – who are all truly the light of their lives!! Madeline stepped away from the 9-5 during their child rearing years to focus on their family. To keep her sanity, and have any amount of adult conversation, she started working for South Church in 1995 by helping G. Alden Nettleton with the accounting, including entering information into the new computer system. After Alden retired, she took over the position of Accounts Manager.

As Accounts Manager of South Church (a part-time position}, Madeline is responsible for everything “money.” Some of the responsibilities for this position include: processing income information, cutting expense checks, processing payroll, paying quarterly Federal and State income taxes and filing corresponding reports, producing monthly Income & Expense reports, producing year-end reports (Pledge Statements, Annual Reports, W-2’s and W-3 forms and 1099’s), and being an integral part of the development of the yearly budget. It is a blessing for her to be able to continue her work as Accounts Manager and be part of the great works happening at South Congregational Church.
