WHAT WE BELIEVE
We, the members of South Church, acknowledge as our sole head, Almighty God, who called us unto Himself through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Savior and Redeemer, Teacher and Lord. Being bound to our Lord's mission, called to witness, serve, heal, rebuild and reconcile, we belong to God through Christ, and strive to follow wherever he leads. We look to the Word of God in the Holy Scriptures for guidance, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to help us become all that we are created to be. We acknowledge, as brothers and sisters in Christ, those who share in this confession; but we also seek relationships in love with all people of good will worldwide, recognizing in others God's infinite creativity and intended diversity. We strive for deeper understanding of each other, and commit ourselves to the basic call of Christianity which is to
...love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God ... for God is love.
(1 John 4:7, 8b)
We pledge to fulfill the purpose of the church as set forth in the following covenant, owned by all members at the time they join this church, and reaffirmed from time to time during our service of worship:

We, the people of God of South Church, believe in God, the Eternal One.
We believe in Jesus Christ as the true Son of God, Savior and Lord.
We believe the Holy Spirit will create within us the strength to carry out God's mission as we receive it from the Holy Scriptures and through faithful prayer.
We covenant together this day in open statement, and from this day forth, that as members of this church we will celebrate the presence of God in our midst;
we will love and serve others, seek justice and resist evil;
we will strive to be good stewards of all that is God's, to love all of God's children as we have been taught to love by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
OPEN & AFFIRMING
South Congregational Church is an Open and Affirming (ONA) Faith Community where everyone is welcome for fellowship and worship in a safe and supportive environment. We have a long history of being a welcoming church and in 2016 voted to affirm that we are
open to all. Come as you are, whoever you are you are welcome here.
We, the members of South Congregational Church, welcome and support all people, including those of every age, ethnicity, gender identity, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation and social economic status. While we recognize that there are differences among us, we believe that we can love alike even though we may not think alike. It is in this spirit that we invite all people to join our Faith Community.
