WHO WE ARE
At South Church, faith is less about having all the right answers and more about learning how to love well.
We are part of the Christian tradition and find our grounding in the life and way of Jesus - a way marked by compassion, justice, forgiveness, courage, and a wide, generous welcome.
We trust the witness of the early church that in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, God’s love is stronger than fear and even death itself. Christians have understood this mystery in many ways across the centuries, and we make room for faithful people to explore and grow in their understanding.
We don’t believe faith requires certainty, perfect theology, or agreement on everything. Questions are not a threat to faith here - they are part of an honest and living faith.
We are a church for people at every stage of the journey: those who are deeply rooted in faith, those who are searching, those who are unsure what they believe, and those who simply hope the world can be more loving and just.

What Shapes Our Faith

Our life together is shaped by these shared commitments:

Love is at the center.
We believe God is known most clearly through love, compassion, and mercy.

Jesus shows us the way.
His life and teachings guide how we try to live - especially in caring for those on the margins.

Everyone belongs.
People of every age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, financial situation, family structure, marital status, and life story are fully welcome and valued here.

Faith and questions belong together.
Doubt, curiosity, and spiritual wrestling are part of an honest faith.

Curiosity over certainty.
We seek to grow in understanding while also making peace with mystery. Faith invites us to keep learning, to listen deeply to one another, and to remain gracious even when we do not fully agree or understand.
Justice matters.
Following Jesus means working toward a world where people are treated with dignity and systems of harm are challenged.
Scripture is sacred and complex.
We read the Bible seriously and thoughtfully, with attention to its history, poetry, and humanity.

We grow together.
Faith is not a solo project. We learn, worship, serve, and support one another as a community.

What We Hope For

We hope to be a place where people:
-
experience spiritual depth without fear
-
find support in difficult seasons
-
grow in compassion and courage
-
discover joy in community
-
learn to love God, neighbor, and self more fully
